Hi! PCOS is a hormonal disturbance which has lead to symptoms like weight gain, irregular menses etc. Since PCOS is a lifestyle disorder, you need to focus on lifestyle modification which includes having a healthy diet which is low in fats and refined carbohydrates and rich in fibre. You need to take your medications as prescribed by your treating physician. At the same time you must increase your physical activity by exercising 30 minutes a day 5 times a week. Stay active throughout the day and limit sedentary activities like watching TV, Computer use, sitting for long hours. You have not mentioned what you eat and how long have you been exercising. It takes time and persistent efforts to see tangible results. Instead of focusing on how many kilos you have to shed, focus on being active and changing your food habits. Be patient and stay motivated as you will surely reap the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle. Moreover PCOS can be controlled only through lifestyle changes and medications.

Eat a diet which is low in fats. Avoid fried, fatty, processed and junk foods like pizza, burger, french fries and soft drinks. Include whole grain cereals like whole wheat products, bran containing foods, oats and oat bran, choose brown rice over white polished rice. Consume plenty of fresh whole fruits instead of juices and vegetables as raw salads. Have low fat milk/curd and cheese. If you are a non-vegetarian choose lean cuts of meats, chicken without skin, eggwhites and avoid fat laden curries, rich gravy dishes, biryanis and kebabs.

Control portion sizes and eat small meals. Avoid nibbling on energy dense snacks like chips, savouries, biscuits and cookies in between meals.

By controlling your diet and staying active along with medications, symptoms of PCOS can be reduced.
