How To Reduce Swelling On Lower Lip After Hitting Head?
My 1 year old son slammed his head onto my mouth and I now have a blood filled bump but no actual bleeding,on my bottom lip. I have been applying ice to control the swelling but I m worried about infection and scarring..... How long does something like this take to heal?
I can understand your concern. The swelling after trauma to lip takes different time for healing for every person depending on the size of swelling, age of the person, other health factors etc.
Usually, it may take a week to 10 days to heal such injury completely. You can take Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen to control pain as and when needed. If you develop burning in the swelling, fever like symptoms or pain keeps increasing instead of decreasing, you may have infection and may require antibiotics. Otherwise, do not worry about infection. Scarring can be predicted only after examining the depth and extent of injury. You can consult a physician or dentist for that.
