It depends on how it was blocked. If it was blocked suddenly due to a clot from somewhere else, it can be dissolved with medicines or removed by a procedure known as embolectomy. If it is due to a clot which has formed there itself, it can be removed by lytic drugs or by a procedure known as angioplasty. Angioplasty is useful to remove blocks due to certain tears known as dissection and also for blocks due to plaques (fat deposition).
