How To Lose Weight While Having Hypothyroidism?

I am trying to figure out how many calories I should eat a day. I have hypothyroidism and am very active (run 4 days a week, and Strength train 2-3) I keep putting on weight. lately I tried carb cycling but that was a complete disaster. Do you have any insight on how much I should eat per day to lose weight.

Hi,

For weight loss, it would be important to make sure that your thyroid levels are normal with the use of your hormone replacement, if they are still low then this would prevent weight loss
Also consider checking T3 levels as well.

Generally, a reduction of 500 calories (from what previously using) helps with weight loss or some persons simply reduce to 1200 calories.

You can consider trying intermittent fasting, it has been shown to help with weight loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
