How To Have A Safe Pregnancy?

Hello, I am 15 weeks pregnant, just found out.. I have smoked THC on a regular basis. I also have hyperthyroidism. I was wondering how long it will take to clear my system, as I am being given a medtox test. I am unaware of what could happen with a positive result, but I know I m a good mom, and don t wanna lose my baby. Please help with some suggestions as to what to do, or what could happen.. I am in NY. Thank you.

I understand your concern and will do my best to answer your question.

I am in NY and I know pretty well how the state behaves in such situations. From what you are describing, you have very little to worry about.

First: did it hurt the baby. Probably not. Now that THC is legal in some states, they may start doing more research in America, but all the research from over the world suggests no significant risk of birth defects, miscarriage, preterm labor or other pregnancy complications from THC use if the mom is otherwise healthy, doesn't smoke cigarettes or use other illegal drugs. In some places they are researching THC as a safe medicine for morning sickness. The jury is still out, and no one is absolutely certain it is safe so please stop using THC but almost for sure: no harm done. Everybody's metabolism is different and THC metabolites can show up in a tox screen for 3-6 weeks after last use.
second: child protective services. THC or alcohol use are, in and of themselves, no reason to remove the baby from mom. Some pediatricians will request a visiting nurse or child protective services referral to do a home visit and make sure it is a healthy safe environment but a positive tox screen alone almost never results in the state remanding the baby.
third: talk to your doctor. Being honest and open with your doctor or midwife is the best policy. They should be highly supportive or your stopping THC. If they are judgmental, find another provider. They can work with you to manage your thyroid medication as well, which is usually not a problem for the pregnancy either.

Hope that helps, Congratulations and best of luck.
