How To Differentiate Between A Haemorrhoid And An Abscess ?

I have what I thought was a hemorrhoid, I m 29 weeks pregnant and it started to come out of my rectum without me even having a bowel movement. It feels huge, hurts extremely bad and is now leaking a yellow fluid. I ve been taking sitzs baths and using witch hazel. Is it a hemorrhoid or an abscess ?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Abscess is usually much more painful than hemorrhoids, it is painful on touch and there may be pus secretion. However, if there are thrombosed hemoorhoids it may have similar symptoms. Also, hemoorhoids usually bleed after defecation and are commonly seen in pregnancy.

Initially it can be treated with dietary changes by having high fibre diet with lot of fluids and make your stool soft. There are supplements such as Psilium and Detralex which may help as well. Also, you should use sitz baths and have hemorrhoidal cream.
But to be sure about exact cause, someone should do examination and your GP or proctologist will evaluated what it exactly is. Based on your signs and symptoms it is more likely hemorrhoids ut abscess cant be ruled out for 100%.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
