How To Differenciate Partial Bowel Blockage From Intense Constipation?

How to differentiate a partial bowel blockage from an intense case of constipation. I struggle with constipation as i am on pain medicine after being hit by a car some years ago. It s nothing im unfamiliar with. However i have not pooped in the last 3 days. I am worried however for the following reasons a) about 2wks ago i developed a constant aching pain in my abdomen on the lower right quadrant btwn belly button and hip bone (I thought it may be appendicitis but dr ruled it out). I have PCOS and sometimes around my period a cyst will rupture, which was his guess. Well two days later my period started, the pain was gone. My period ended last week wed. b) for the last week my stomach has been making constant gurggling noises. Like air bubbles in my stomach juices. (Note i don t drink anything carbonated) c) i have been bloated but i was chalking that up to my period. d) i have not had the URGE to have a bm in the last 3 days but i have been farting regularly and daily. e) that pain referred to in bullet a came back saturday but is now gone unless i massage stomach. f) i took fiber pills, to no avail. So i took two duocalax on sunday morning. I got nauseous. However i took them first thing and on an empty stomach, so i dunno if that had anything to do with it. g) ive been using thst tummy massage to go poo (pushing and rubbing clockwise in lil circles). To no avail, except more tummy gurggling and farts. h) when i bare down as if to strain and pass a bm i feel nothing, usually ill feel it inside me....it will be uncomfortable. I don t have that feeling. Lastly and just add a sidebar- ive recently begun a severely limited, low carb diet. So ive been eatting a lot of protien, fruits & veggies, yogurt, keifer, cheese, eggs. Finally, about a year ago i had a paniculectomy, so it s very difficult for me to ascertain if im bloated, and if my stomach should feel so tight when i push and try to massage.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.
I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

Usually females have higher chances of getting infected with HIV after sex, if the male partner has unsuppressed load of HIV in body fluids like blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid & also the lining of the vagina and cervix may allow HIV to enter.

From your history I can understand you are having panic attacks & are confusing your symptoms. Also you haven't mentioned that how sure you are about HIV infection in your partner. So relax first & come forward to get tested. If it's negative, then you will be out of this stress.

Reach the near by ER or to labs for testing. You can do a antigen/antibody test or a nucleic acid test (NAT). Testing for your male partner is also needed. Results can be collected at the earliest & further management can be done accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
