How Soon Does Diovan Help In Lowering Blood Pressure Levels?

Doctor My blood pressure was checked today and surprisingly to me was high, 150/100. My physician prescribed diovan which I have taken my first dose. He asked me to come back to his office in 3 days to recheck the BP. My question is how quickly can I expect to see a decrease in the BP as a result of taking the diovan? thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would explain that a single spike in blood pressure values does not indicate uncontrolled arterial hypertension.

It could be related to anxiety or physical activity.

Nevertheless, as you have started Diovan, you should know that it may take up to some days to achieve a new balance in your blood pressure values.

Anyway, I recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure frequently during the day in the next days. If your blood pressure values drop too much in the next days, I would recommend avoiding taking Diovan.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing good health.
