How Should Leg Varicose Veins Prominence With Bubbling Sensations Be Treated?
I have a male friend who is 54 years old with varicose veins in the left leg that are very prominent. He is also a smoker. He recently mentioned that he felt a bubbling sensation in the leg with the vericose veins. Needless to say, this concerns me as a friend, and I m sure it concerns him given he told me about it. Is this something that requires immediate attention? The first thing that comes to my mind is bot clots. Should he see a Dr immediately?
Hi, Varicose veins usually don't pose any emergency. But, if he has a swelling, pain or bleeding then you should see a Doctor soon. I suggest you get a Color Doppler of the venous system of the affected limb done. This will clarify what is the state of his varicosities and whether there is any Deep vein thrombosis or not. Then only further treatment can be planned. Do let us know the report and we can guide you further. For now, you can advice him to wear Compression stockings and I usually advice my patients Tab Daflon twice daily. This should give him temporary relief and also to keep his limbs elevated above the level of his heart for as long every day as possible. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
