How Often Is A Mammogram Recommended In An Ovarian Cancer Survivor?

I am 73 and have had a mammogram every year for the last 38 years. In 2003 I was diagnosed with a low grade 3C ovarian cancer that I do not believe was related to the brrca gene. I went into remission after my first treatement with carboplatin and did complete the 6 treatments recommended. I have been cancer free for over 15 years. Should I still be getting a yearly mammogram?

Hi there, I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

First of all do not panic.

I must congratulate you for being healthy and disease free for last 15 years.

In my opinion, now you can very well get the mammography screening done after every 3 years.
Manual self breast examination should be done by yourself every 4 monthly.
If you find any abnormalities of breasts tissue like lump or changes in the breast skin then please seek doctor's opinion at the earliest.

Please start on Folic acid and vitamin B 12 supplements regularly.
This helps to maintain body's natural cell growth and is shown to be helpful over long periods of time.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar.
