How Long Should Intercourse Be Avoided Post Oophorectomy?

I had my left ovary removed on the 19th. They also removed a large amount of scarring from endometriosis. I came home the same day and have been on the mend since. My husband and I accidentally went too far and wound up having intercourse today. It has only been 13 days since my surgery, and I am worried because I found out after that I was supposed to wait longer. I am having some pain in my stomach, but nothing too severe. It was unprotected sex and there was no trying to stop his ejaculate from entering. I am worried that I could have caused damage.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Typically, women can resume all "normal" activities in about 4-6 weeks after undergoing an operation.
Having intercourse depends totally upon the pain due to the incisions for operative procedures.
If the pain is reduced to minimum, then intercourse is fine as long as there is no incision in the vagina or it should have healed. If there is a vaginal incision then it is recommended to wait until 6 weeks.
It would be better to practice protected intercourse by wearing condoms until 2 to 4 weeks as it would reduce the chances of infection.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
