How Long Do The Side Effects From Clindamycin Last?

Hello,
I was prescribed clindamycin after a root canal. I took it 4 300mg pills within 48 hours. My dentist told me to stop taking the medicine when I complained about severe diarrhea and abdominal pains. I stopped taking the medicine about 36 hours ago and the side effects of this drug are still prevalent. In fact the diarrhea has gotten worse and the stomach pains are more pronounced. How long will these side effects continue?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your query diarrhea after taking Antibiotics is due to the side effects of the antibiotics as they kill the good bacteria of the intestines along with the harmful bacteria
leading to disturbance in the complex functioning of the intestines leading to diarrhea..
It is one of the common side effects of the antibiotic intake..
It is however temporary side effect and will resolve once the antibiotic intake is stopped..
As you have already stopped taking antibiotics 36 hours back the symptoms will gradually resolve..
I would suggest you to take proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole or Omeprazoleempty stomach
in the morning.
You should also take plenty of fluids and oral rehydration solution..
Take Loperamide or Furazolidone to control loose motions..
Take more of probiotics like Yoghurt as it will help in retaining god bacteria..
Take more of cereals, banana, yoghurt and rice in diet..
In case if the symptoms worsen consult your treating physician and get evaluated..
