How Long Can My Father Live With 10 To 15 Percent Of Heart Function?

Dad had heart attack July 29 and had 30 percent of heart working. Recently went to hospital and admitted him and said he only had 10 to 15 percent working now and going to put him in CCU. What does that mean for him? How long can he live with 10 to 15 percent heart function?

Hi welcome to HCM
I understand your query and concern.
Ejection fraction 15 to 20% means pumping action of heart is only 15% which means he is in congestive heart failure.Yes he needs a ICU admission definitely. He needs investigations like ECG,2 dimensional Echocardiography, complete blood picture, serum electrolytes, chest xray, renal function tests. If his lungs function, kidney function is normal he can be managed with drugs like Inotropes,Diuretics,Intravenous fluids,Anti hypertensives.Electrolytes should be corrected if found abnormal.Consult cardiologist for expert management.
Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.
