How Is Hepatitis B Infection Transmitted?

I recently ran into an old friend , we are both men in our late 50s. He told me his doctor told him earier this year he has hepatitis B. He said doctor told him in January his hep test was 17000, today doctor told him it was 7000. We go fishing, rafting and camping together. Is there a risk to me and my family especially my grandkids?
