How Is Jantoven Different From Xarelto?

My doctor put me on xarelto for blood clot in my leg. I take insulin 105 units a day. I am on Medicare. Due to insulin cost I get in the donut hole by March. now with the cost of xarelto I am hitting donut hole now. Is there much difference between jantoven and xarelto in the way they work? Jantoven is much less expensive and I am considering requesting this medication instead of xarelto. I am a widow and the expense in stressing me out.

Hi,

You are right, Xarelto is quite expensive. Jantoven is much cheaper.

The mechanism of the two drugs are different but they work the same way for clots. Both work well.

The only problem with Jantoven is that it needs monitoring of INR (a blood test) regularly while monitoring is not needed for Xarelto. So if monitoring is available and feasible, we may better use Jantoven as there is a huge cost difference. So you can discuss this with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
