MY DAUGHTER IS 11 YEARS LOD AND IS GOING TO CANBERRA FOR HER SCHOOL CAMP TOMORROW BY BUS . SHE GETS REALLY BAD MOTION SICKNESS. I TOOK HER TO THE DOCTORS AND SHE PRESCRIBED STEMETIL. I VE ALSO SPOKE TO THE PHARMACIST HER RECOMMENDED KWELLS OR TRAVELCALM INSTEAD OF STEMETIL. WHICH WAY IS THE BETTER WAY. SHE EVEN GETS BUS SICK GOING FROM SCHOOL TO A SPORTING VENUE. REGARDS NIKI
1. Stemetil [prochlorperazine] is under the class antivertigo and is usually reserved when there is significant nausea and vomiting and In my clinical practice, I usually don't prescribe it.
2. Ondansetron and domperidone are the two most commonly used drugs in my Clinic, since a single oral dose is sufficient to reduce the risk of recurrent vomiting. Also because it comes in MD [mouth dissolving] option. Thus, it is another reason of prescribing the same. Also, there is no sedative or extra pyramidal side effect as seen with Stemetil [half hour before travelling]
3. Ask the patient to chew cardamom, ginger, lime, crushed ice. - Ask to wear cotton plugs before travelling to maintain the pressure inside the ear canal.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
