How Effective Is Postinor 2 In Preventing Pregnancy?

Hi I had an unprotected sex on 27th at 1:30pm. And I took the first one (postinor2) on 29th at 4:15pm. And this morning I forgot to take the second one. As soon as I realized it, I took the second one which is on 30th at 11:20am. I know that I didn t take the first one whitin 24 hours (more likely over 48 hours) and the second one was 19 hours after the first pill. I just noticed that the second one had to be taken exactly 12hours after the first pill. Do you think postinor2 still work on me with this situation ? Or do I need to take extra one ? Thanks Ache

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Emergency contraceptive pill should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, however, the second dose should be exactly 12 hours after the previous one. If the timing between the two is not accurate, then it will not work. There is no use of taking any further dose of prostinor 2. I would suggest you to wait for the periods and if they are delayed and urine pregnancy test is positive, then further management should be done accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Deepti Verma
