How Does Nicotine Affect The Kidneys?

My husband has been chewing nicotine gum for approximately 4 years. Every week he goes thur two packages of gum, one 4% and one 2%. He is now having some kidney problems. My question is how can this nitotine gum be affecting his kidneys. It would seem that the kidneys having to filter all of this nitotine would definitely cause a problem. Is that possible?

Hello

Thank you for trusting HCM

Dear nicotine obviously can cause renal problems,
The mechanism is the mesangial cells get activated, which produces collagen and fibronectin. This results in kidney scarring and progressive kidney disease. There are many mechanisms but above one is the first.. It may provoke atherosclerosis and thrombus formation, it may lead to endothelial dysfunction. Please consult detoxification specialist /psychiatrist he will slowly reduce the drug dependence.. I think I answered to your question if you have more questions please feel free to ask.
I find this answer helpful
