How Does Xarelto Work For Deep Vein Thrombosis?

Hi, I just finished taking Xarelto, Dr. directed. How long after this last dose, will my blood s clotting time be back to normal? I currently wear a Medic Alert bracelet right now. Want to know how much longer do I need to wear this bracelet? Thank you for your consideration of this matter. Cynthia Kanipe

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is an anticoagulant ('blood thinner') that acts directly by inhibiting the activity of clotting factor Xa. It takes about 2–4 hours for it to reach its full blood-thinning effect.

For initial treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis xarelto has to be taken twice a day for the first 3 weeks then once a day.

Continue treatment for as long as the risk of thromboembolism recurrence persists. You need to wear the bracelet for at least 6-8 weeks depending upon your doctors advice.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
