How Does HIV Get Transmitted?

Hi about three years ago my boyfriend and I spend the night at a hotel. I took a shower in the morning in the hotel after doing that I used the towel that was placed there after drying off my body and private parts.i noticed that there was dried blood on the towel . Could I be infected? Couple months back an HIV person touched my hand and few days later I got a sore throat and slight fever. Am I infected?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. HIV is transmitted through blood and ejeculatory fluids like penile or vaginal discharge. It is not transmitted via saliva or perspiration.

In addition, it requires minimum 8 drops of blood to transmit HIV from an infected person. The dried blood on the towel cannot infect you of HIV nor the touching of an HIV infected person. Touching an HIV infected person or even sharing food with them does not transmit HIV.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
