First of all, you should get your blood sugars and
thyroid function tests done, to be followed by specific treatment for possible
diabetes or thyroid problem.
Yes, curtailing sugar and eating sufficient calories (1500 to 1800 cal) through
proteins,
vitamins minerals, fibers and little of fat and carbohydrates (calculated and advised by a dietitian) would be helpful in getting rid of extra fat.
But exercises in any form of problems are essential for there would be loss at the cost of weak muscles.
Thus treatment of underlying cause is diet control and sufficient exercises in sitting posture (Yoga/pranayama/walking) as far as possible.
