How Can Tonsillitis Along With Earache Be Treated?

Hello,
I'm just getting over a nasty bout of tonsillitis, my tonsils are generally quite large and i used to get it all the time as a child. I haven't had any for about 10 years (i'm now 32) until last week. I had a temperature and aches and pains, one night my uvula became swollen, so much so that it along with my already inflamed tonsils almost blocked my throat and i had problems breathing. It shrunk back down during the day, but that night i started getting sinus pressure in my forehead and that night i developed an ear ache with a lot of pressure. Now there is fluid trickling out of my ear and i have muffled hearing. I still have the remains on infection in my throat and slight congested sinus'. I'm currently completing a course on antibiotics. My GP thinks i might have a perforated ear drum, can you give me any advice?

Hi welcome to the health care magic..

You are having tonsilitis and that can cause reffered ear pain ..

But discharge from ear is not common , so it could be ear infection and tympanic membrane perforation might be there ..
If discharge is watery than simple serous otitis media might be there ..

According to cause specific treatment given..

Here your otoscopic examination has to be done for searching ear cause

If tonsil not improving and enlargement more than throat swab taken for culture and for relieving inflammation short term steroid can be prescribed like that of 0.5 mg betamethasone

Salt water gargles done with hot water three times a day

Consult otorhinolaryngologist with keeping these in mind

Take care
