How Can Swelling And Stiffness At The Injury Site Be Treated?

My right middle finger has a slit cut right on the skin where you bend your finger (Like a paper cut). I m a letter carrier for the postal service so at work daily bending it working outdoors in inclinment weather so to protect it I was wearing a bandaid, however it has swollen and is stiff now and I m unable to bend it. Also under my maid bed there is a black ruse discoloration but it doesn t hurt when I press on it. I sprayed an antiseptic spray on the cut last night. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of swelling and stiffness, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen for 5-7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil, and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
