How Can Spinal Arthritis Be Treated?

I m soon to be 90 and have been diagnosed w/ spinal arthritis and hip/leg bursitis and have terrible pain during the night and have just been prescribed Celebrex. I ve heard about taking medicinal turmeric for inflammation. can I take that with the Celebrex or should I wait until I see how the Celebrex alone works on the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the arthritis problems you are facing.

Celebrex is a good anti-inflammatory medication. Turmeric supplements have also excellent anti-inflammatory properties.

So far no interaction has been concluded between Celebrex and turmeric. However, as they have the same anti-inflammatory properties, side effects like stomach upset or increased chance for bleeding can occur.

If you started Celebrex now, wait for a few days to see its results only. After that, you can continue combination therapy. Do not forget to tell your doctor the meds and supplements you are taking.

Wish fast recovery.
