How Can Sore Throat Be Treated?

I have had sore throat (don't really have nasal or chest congestion) for a couple days. Very achy and chills, slept a lot under lots of extra covers- couldn't get warm. Took ibuprofen, seemed to temporarily help the chills and aches.. have thrown up a couple times, assume it is reaction to ibuprofen without much food.
Could this be strep throat. Should I be doing something else?

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hello!
I have been through your question.
Related your concern I think that the most probably diagnosis is strep throat caused by streptococcus. You should know that the most common symptoms of strep throat include sore throat, usually starts quickly and can cause pain when swallowing, a fever, red and swollen tonsils, with white patches,or pus and some times may associated with headache, stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting (as you have). Usually when you feel chills this could be a sign of fever and you need to monitoring and take ibuprofen not more than 1 tablet(if the dose is 600 mg) in 4-6 hours. Furthermore what I suggest is meet a Infectious diseases specialist to do a local examination of your throat, take a rapid strep test or/ and throat culture in order to define better the diagnosis and to start the prompt antibiotic( ampicillin, amoxicillin if you aren't allergic).
I hope my answer help you.
I wish a quick recovery.
