How Can Sinusitis Be Treated?

My father is 93 and recently returned from a 3 week visit to the Philippines. According to his doctor he returned with a sinus infection and was treated with antibiotics, however his ear is hurting, his balance is bad/off and food has no taste to him. Water does not even taste good to him. He has lost 5 lbs. He is approx. 5 5 and very small boned. He is Caucasian. His doctor is referring him to a ENT. What do you think could cause this lack of balance, loss of taste, ear ache, and general feeling down.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In your father case, mostly acute inner ear infection like vestibulitis or labyrinthitis can be the possibility. If needed antibiotic and the anti-inflammatory drug can be prescribed.

Sometime after remission dizziness remains for few days in inner ear infection for which vestibular exercise is beneficial. Consult otorhinolaryngologist for further examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
