How Can Severe Sleep Apnea Be Treated?

Hi; I m 70 y.o. and suffer from severe sleep apnea and have done so for years. Nothing seems to work, not for very long at least. I currently take Zolpidem (ambien) 10mg. Just one pill a night but I have been told that I could take two if I really need it. I have taken two pills a couple of time, they still don t get me to sleep for hours and when I get up in the morning I m all drugged out and lethargic. Can you tell me about the strongest sleeping aid/med on the market that my doctor can prescribe to me. Something that really works...like laying down on the operating table and the sleep doctor does his/her thing and I m out cold for how ever many hours they want me out. If I could rest like that I would be doing much better.. Please advise Thank You Sam Angus Michaels

hi sir,i really appreciate your effort to give a detailed description of your problem.its actually insomnia what you are suffering from.most of my patients gave a positive feedback about AMBIEN CR i.e;zolpidem extended release.hope you have a good sleep.you have mentioned sleep apnoea in the question.i would like to clarify that sleep apnoea is feeling severe breathlessness and your oxygen saturation will go so low during sleep.sedatives shouldnt be used in sleep apnoea.CPAP is the treatment of choice.it is common in obese people with BMI>30.take care.bye.
