How Can Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis Be Treated?

My wife has moderate to severe RA. First medication was Humira on 2 week injections. Worked great just a couple days fatigue at the end of 2 week cycle. Dr. changed to Embrel. Not a very good result at all. Excessive pain and fatigue. Now wants to go to injection. I DO NOT WANT TO GO THERE. Can you recommend an oral med that might help with the RA?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Discuss with your treating Doctor about [prednisone]

2)Discuss with your treating Doctor to combine [methotrexate] along with [Enbrel] if required for better result and start with low dose.

Do take few preventive steps like this -

1)Do exercise regularly. Gentle exercise can help strengthen the muscles around your joints, and it can help fight fatigue you might feel. Check with your physio before you start exercising. If you're just getting started, begin by taking a walk. Try swimming or gentle water aerobics. Avoid exercising tender, injured or severely inflamed joints.

2)Apply heat or cold. Heat can help ease your pain and relax tense, painful muscles. Cold may dull the sensation of pain. Cold also has a numbing effect and decreases muscle spasms.

3)Find ways to cope with pain by reducing stress in your life. Techniques such as guided imagery, distraction and muscle relaxation can all be used to control pain.

Hope that helps
