How Can Severe Nausea And Diarrhea Be Treated?

My sister is on oral vancomycin and having severe nausea and terrible diarrhea. there is no odor to her stool, it is orange and liquid, but she is losing weight and can t eat a thing. Her doctor told her to just keep taking the meds. She is taking probiotics, trying to eat yogurt, and drinking pedialyte. is there anything else she should do?

Hi,
It would have been helpful if you had provided a little more detailed history. Did the nausea and diarrhoea start with the vancomycin? Since how long has she been having having the nausea and diarrhoea?
You have a couple of options here:
1) Your doctor can possibly reduce the Vancomycin dose and you could monitor the symptoms. If her nausea and diarrhoea symptoms settle, then the Vancomycin dose could be increased.
2) Continue the same Vancomycin dose and your doctor can add in some anti-emetics and drugs to stop the diarrhoea providing once he has ruled out that these symptoms are not related to Gastroenteritis.

Continue with the probiotics and Pedialyte. Increase fluid content.
