How Can Severe Insomnia Be Treated?

Hello, i am having real issues with sleeping to the point where at most i get around 2 hours and has been going on for a month. im on anti depressent (cit) and take lorzepam for sleep. however i am not happy/content with taking lorezepam so tonight im thinking of taking kalms. i take citalopram in the morning n will take kalms for sleep. i have had the dose for 8 days which isnt enough to expereince the full benefit of the drug but i do NOT want to go another sleepless night and cannot guarantee the anti depressant will help me sleep.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It can be difficult not getting enough sleep. In addition to the medication that you are using, you would need to try the sleep hygiene tips. Sleep hygiene handouts or information are available online. You can also consider melatonin , it can sometimes help persons with sleep. Finally, cognitive behavioral therapy, specifically to help with sleep, can be tried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
