How can severe fatigue while suffering from mononucleosis be treated?

I was diagnosed with mononucleosis about 4 weeks ago. I m still suffering from extreme fatigue and hot flashes/sweating followed by chills. I m in the middle of a burst and taper of prednisone. How long can the hot flashes and chills be expected to continue?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

IMN (infectious mononucleosis) is characterized by intense fatigue and throat pain. It’s a part of disease spectrum and it will subside by it own. No specific treatment is required, take plenty of oral fluids to keep you well hydrated: If the symptoms are severe you may require IV fluids. The hot flushes and chills will continue for couple of days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
