Hi,

If you are suffering from insomnia from a long time as you have mentioned, it is likely to pull you into depression. Body requires rest as much as it requires food & water to function well.

Lack of sleep not only causes day time fatigue, irritability but also melancholy, depression, impulsive behavior leading to suicidal thoughts(reason behind being insomnia).

Insomnia can be treated by medications(anti-depressants, mood elevators, antihistamines, ramelteon, sleeping pills(alprazolam), etc but it often leads to drug(medication) dependency which can be worse.

Maintain a comfortable, cosy bed & sleeping environment.

Change the mattress, take new bed covers & comfortable pillow. Avoid sleeping in the day time, maintain regular sleep schedule, exercise, avoid addictions if any, avoid caffeine, eat well before going to sleep, use muscle relaxants/ sprays or take a shower to get relaxed, stay away from mobile/ internet.

Sleep well else it may lead to complications like liver dysfunction, weakened immunity, high blood pressure, low sex drive, poor balance(mobility) & risk of heart disease later in life.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
