How Can Severe Anxiety And Depression Be Treated?

are there any anti anxiety /anti-depressants that are safe to use with the 25 mg of metoprolol that I take daily for prevention of SVTs? I also have fibromyalgia with anxiety. I currently take about 5 mg of doxepin at night for help with sleep. But worry about the doxepin now that some studies have linked it to alzheimers.

Hi,

Your are right Duxepin is not a good choice here. One reason is it side effects specially sedation and dryness of mouth. Second reason is Duxepin and other tricyclic antidepresse are also not favored if you have any heart problem as what you said about SVT.

In such patients it's necessary to avoid. Better and safer drugs are available specially like SSRI. SSRI are safe and effective. They may also help your fibrmylgia specially Duloxetien. However do not stop Duxepin abruptly and don't start any drug without being prescribed by your doctor. So you can see a psychiatrist and discuss this issue with him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
