How Can Seizure Disorder Be Managed?

HELLO I HAVE A SEIZURE DISORDER. AFTER HAVING SURGERY TO REMOVE A 3RD STAGE GLIOBLASTOMA FROM MY RIGHT TEMPLE AREA IN 2011 THEN gamma knife surgery in 2013 to follow up! I have been on lamectil for about 1 year my dose was 150mg daily recently increased to 200 mg daily because i was having focal seizures i usually take a 1 hour nap every afternoon, lately i fall asleep on and off all day now!naps are now 1-3 hrs long! My husband is getting concerned would this small increase in dosage be the cause? I am sleeping at night so that is not the cause!!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Limectal itself can have many side effects, including drowsiness. However excessive sleep had not been a very common side effect, rather it has been found to cause insomnia, even if it causes sleep, only 50 mg increase should not have caused this much change, so we should see other reasons for it. It can have many causes even change in routine, or change in timings in weather can cause it, however is context of your significant history I think we should rule out other causes as well related to your primary disease, I would advise you should have a consultation with doctor who had been treating your primary disease to check if this could be related to your primary disease or its treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
