How Can Ringworm Infection On The Thighs Be Treated?

Hello Dr. My boyfriend has ringworm in between his thighs and he has been treating it for two weeks with antifungal cream but I was curious if it is safe for us to have sex since it is contagious from skin to skin contact because I had read that it isn’t contagious after 48 hours of treatment

Hello and welcome,

Tinea corporis (ringworm) is a fungal infection of the body that causes ringlike circular rash. One can get the infection through direct contact (from person to person or from animals/pets to person) or indirect contact (from the objects used by infected person: clothes, towel, gym equipment etc).
Yes, after 2 days starting the treatment with anti-fungal topical creams ringworm infection is usually considered not contagious and can not be transmitted to either direct or indirect contacts. But your boyfriend should continue using anti-fungal cream as prescribed by your doctor (usually 2 times a day for 3 weeks).

I hope the above information will be helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.

Thank you,
Malik Amonov MD
