How Can Recurrent Sore Throat Be Treated?

My daughter continually has food that gets stuck in the back of her throat in small pockets near her tonsils. It often causes her to have a sore throat and it seems unhealthy to me to have food stay there and build up bacterial. Is there a surgery she can get to fix this problem.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of recurrent sore throat which seems to be due to chronic upper respiratory tract infection and it could be due to inflammation of tonsils and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

I would suggest you to avoid taking cold carbonated beverages and do warm saline gargles. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin in combination with antiallergic medication Levocetrizine. You should take small and frequent meals and avoid large carbonated drinks. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get barium meal swallow, throab swab test and routine blood test done and start treatment after proper prescription. Go for tonsilectomy if advised.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
