How Can Post Radiation Psychosis And Dementia Be Differentiated And Diagnosed Conclusively?

My very best friend of 50 years, age 70, has just finished , about a month ago, radiation for lymphoma of the eye. I talked to her 10 days ago and she was fine Her sister called me yesterday to say she had been admitted to the ER under the Baker act in Florida . Her behavior is no short term memory, storytelling that is completely bizarre, agitation, anxiety wandering, trying to escape the hospital necessitating security and submission. She was cleared medically today and a psychiatrist saw her and said post radiation psychosis was a possibility but that he also saw some behavior htat was consistant with dementia. She was sent to a psychiatric facility where she will be evaluated and hopefully treated.M RI s of the brain and eye showed no tumor

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

In my opinion the more likely cause is post-radiation psychosis too. I would also recommend a check on her electrolytes to make sure all is well there.

Best wishes.
