How Can Persistent Cough Be Treated?

I have a cough that was persistent all last night. My doctor prescribed robitussin with codeine which one takes every 4 hours. While it has given me some relief the coughing continues. I would like to take it every 3 hours to see if that would give me some relief. Is that ok?

As per your query you have persistent cough which is due to chronic lung infection or bronchitis. Need not to worry much. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should go for pulmonary function tests and x-ray chest as well to check exact level of infection. Start treatment only after proper prescription. Drink plenty of water. Take glass of warm water with one spoon of honey and ginger extract. You need inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamine drug. You should use mist humidifiers in room. You should take cough expectorants as well.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
