How Can Painful Trigger Finger Be Treated?

I am having horrendous hand pain and my fingers go into a locked position that I can t get out of myself, so I am constantly yelling in pain for my husband to bend my fingers. Pain also radiates up my arms ( or vice versa). I have the same condition, though less troubling in my feet and more so in my legs.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Trigger finger is an extremely painful condition but can be managed effectively. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac for pain relief. These NSAIDs and provide good pain relief. If pain persists, you have to consult an orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated, you might require minimally invasive procedures “per cutaneous trigger finger release” where needle is used to release the tendon of a finger stuck in a bent position. This restores range of motion and eases pain.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
