How Can Pain In My Esophagus At The Bottom Of The Neck, Belches And Regurgitation Be Treated?

I am having pain in my esophagus about the bottom of the neck, belching and sometimes I think my gastric juice is coming up. It s very hard to eat or drink without pain. It feels like food is getting trapped. I have had gastritis in the past and a fissure? in my esophagus. What should I do to get relief? Thanks

Hello,

1) Your symptoms suggests you have severe Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The muscular valve inside stomach (between esophagus and stomach) become loose / weak in this condition. Therefore, you have occasional episodes of reflux of gastric content into esophagus. Gastric content is highly acidic in nature therefore, it produces microscopic injury to inner layer of esophagus (esophagitis). Esophgitis gives throat / mid-chest pain during taking food.

2) You might require endoscopy to confirm/ diagnose this condition.

3) You can follow few preventive measures to reduce severity of symptoms. Avoid spicy / citrus food, do not lie down immediately after taking meals, drink cold milk before sleep and reduce any form of nicotine and caffeine.

4) If your symptoms persists even after these non-pharmacological measures, you need to consult GP to start treatment for gastritis. Gastritis treatment reduce gastric acid output, thus it also help to relieve symptoms of GERD at certain extent.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
