How Can Pain In Fractured Ribs Be Treated?

I BROKE 3 RIBs in my lower middle right side of my back 3 years ago. I ve had on and off mild to moderate soreness on and off in this General area ever since. This past week end however during one of the more severe episodes my muscles in that area went into very painful and unpredictable spasms. I self treated with heat and Alleve and while the spasms abated the soreness persists to a higher level than I ve previously experienced since the normal healing times of the fractures . WONDER IF THIS WILL RETRAT TO NORRMAL LEVELS OR IF MORE PAINFUL SPASMS LURK,AND HOW TO PROCEED FROM HERE.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

You can take higher end analgesics like Tramadol or Gabapentin for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a thoracic surgeon and plan for epidural shot.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
