How Can Pain And Inflammation In The Vaginal Opening Be Treated?

Hi, I m an 18 y/o female. For the last six months, possibly longer I have noticed a small paper cut like wound on my vaginal opening, in which this began when I was not sexually active and at the time also presented with a UTI and a hot feeling in my genital area. I never had any other symptoms apart from usual discharge. I recently became sexually active in which hurt a lot. There is redness aswell.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, as you said you had recently been sexually active and that might be the reason of the cut and swelling but usually it heals at its own. You would just need antibiotics for the urinary tract infection and may need analgesic or anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain and swelling relief. Using lubricants during sexual activity may also help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
