How Can Muscle Strain In The Right Arm Be Treated?
Hi. I m more or less looking for information. I have a right arm where I don t know if its just strained from lifting weights, or if it is something more. I have an appointment later this month, but I was just wondering how you tell if the arm is just strained or if its something more. It hurts to lift up, and many times I have to use my left arm to push my right arm along. It has been going on for about a month. How do you tell the difference?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In muscle strain, pain occurs usually in particular movement of muscle. In mild to moderate strain, usually pain improved on rest. The non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug usually helpful in relieving pain and inflammation.
If no improvement, then MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan helpful in knowing the severity of the strain. If tear not present, then to rule out myopathy, EMG (electromyogram) done.
Consult orthopedic surgeon for examination and if needed, then a neurologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Parth Goswami
