How Can Migraine And Fatigue Be Treated?

I ve been experiencing complex migraines since October 2017, with aura, numbness, speech and processing difficulties. I ve had approximately 13-16. I ve had headaches that vary from dull to throbbing to stabbing consistently nearly everyday from morning to night. I ve seen a neurologist who ordered an MRI--- it came back clear, thankfully. I m now logging occurrences, etc. I m on medical leave to get these headaches under control, so my daily stressors have pretty much been eliminated. I am getting adequate sleep at night, yet am extremely fatigued during the day, requiring a 3-4 hour nap. I also feel light headed at times. I have been to my optometrist and my vision hasn t changed since my summer appointment. I saw my gynecologist today for my annual, am getting a mammogram tomorrow, and began seeing a chiropractor for some neck soreness and stiffness, thinking that may have something to do with these constant headaches. I am definitely not myself. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) As you have already done [MRI] and done physical examination by your Doctor [Neurologist], so, no further investigation is required.

2) Discuss with your treating Doctor about prescription medications like:
a) [Sumatriptan and Naproxen sodium] for a headache
b) [Amitriptyline] for prevention of future attacks

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to avoid triggers. If certain foods or odors seem to have triggered your migraines in the past, avoid them.

2) Try to reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake and avoid tobacco.

3) Make a daily routine with regular sleep patterns and regular meals. In addition, try to control stress.

4) Do exercise regularly. Regular aerobic exercise reduces tension and can help prevent migraines. If your doctor agrees, choose any aerobic exercise you enjoy, including walking, swimming, and cycling. Obesity is also thought to be a factor in migraine headaches, and regular exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight or lose weight.

5) Try to reduce the effects of estrogen. You may want to avoid or reduce the medications you take that contain estrogen. These medications include birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy. Talk with your doctor [Gyn] about the appropriate alternatives or dosages for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
