How Can Itching And Swelling Around Ear Piercings Be Treated?

I got my ears pierced as a little girl, but later found that I was allergic to earrings. I tried everything, even the pure gold earrings. My peirced holes would swell and be red and itchy with puss pockets. So I stopped wearing earrings. I haven’t worn earrings in over 2 years but I still commonly have these symptoms the same way I did when I still wore the metal. Why is this happening, and how do I treat it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is your body sensitivity to metals, which can not be changed by any medicines or other treatments. So accept your body tendency and adjust with the same.

A transient episode of itching and swelling can be treated with ice application, antihistamine medicines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
