How Can Hypertension Be Treated?

I have been battling high blood pressure over the last 3 weeks. The high has been 250 and the bottom has been 101, not at the same time. Now after taking 40 mg of Benazepril, it jumps 204, 191, 181 for the top and the bottom has been pretty good in the 80 s. Just now it is 181/96. Is there a charge for this?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

Blood pressures of 250 mmhg systolic are considered very high and defined as malignant hypertension.

Thorough investigations should be done to rule out kidney diseases, diabetes, dyslipidemia, coarctation of aorta etc.

So better to consult a cardiologist and discuss all these.

You need to take a minimum of two antihypertensive drugs for the control of blood pressure.

Single antihypertensive drug won't be effective. Along with drugs, lifestyle modifications in terms of salt-restricted diet, weight reduction, stress management, exercise etc are needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
