How Can Hot Flashes Along With Vertigo Be Treated?

Hello, My husband had a hot flash with vertigo a couple of hours ago. He got hungry (he had fasted all day in observance of Good Friday) and ate some wheat cereal. He says he feels a little tingly on the right forearm. He is 52 and got 2 stents two years ago after discovery of a silent heart attack. Do I need to be worried? Alison

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As per your clinical history, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor and to know the exact cause, do few investigations like [Carotid ultrasonography, ECG/ECHO, and Arteriography].

2) Discuss with your Doctor about [Anti-platelet drugs] and [Anticoagulants].

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to avoid smoking.

2) Try to limit cholesterol and fat. Cutting back on cholesterol and fat, especially saturated fat and trans fat, in your diet may reduce the buildup of plaques in your arteries.

3) Try to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. These foods contain nutrients such as potassium, folate, and antioxidants, which may protect against a TIA or a stroke.

4) Try to limit sodium. If you have high blood pressure, avoiding salty foods and not adding salt to food may reduce your blood pressure.

5) Do exercise regularly. If you have high blood pressure, regular exercise is one of the few ways you can lower your blood pressure without drugs.

6) Try to limit alcohol intake.

7) Try to maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight contributes to other risk factors, such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.

8) Try to control diabetes. You can manage diabetes and high blood pressure with diet, exercise, weight control and, when necessary, medicines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
