Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have always had blood pressure of 120/80. 3 weeks ago my new family doctor said it was high. I told her I have never had high blood pressure. I seen my old family doctor last Monday. It was 150/90. He said to check with her and monitor it. I got a cuff on Thursday and started keeping a chart. He also told me if 140/90 I needed to get with her. Of course its a weekend. I was 154/106 with pulse of 103. When do I know when to go to ER?
Blood pressure becomes only emergency if it is very high like over 200/120, or if pressure is high and there is chest pain, or shortness of breath, or irrelevant talks, or weakness in any part of the body.
In absence of above symptoms, there is no need to panic about high BP.
154 /106 is high though, but its nor an emergency. You just need to keep checking your BP twice a day, for 2 weeks and then discuss your readings with your doctor.
Few times BP may be high because of stress or tension while checking BP at Doctor office, so it's better to check for 2 weeks at home and then discuss with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
