Hi My Dad (age 57) has Diabetics, due to it he has recently undergone amputation surgery (Diabetic Foot Surgery). Many medicines were given as daily dose (few contains aspirin, paracetamol, etc). 10 days after Surgery, dad had his eyes turned into dark yellow & urine into extreme dark yellow, stomach turned into full and tight state (but their is no proper food intake), and he gets day long hiccups (stops for a while and it continuous again, 3 days and it is still on). After consulting with Dr. its Jaundice - Please tell me solution for diabetic patient on below points 1) Hiccups 2) Jaundice 3) Hard/Tight/Full Stomach (we have duphalac - but is it safe / will it create side effect) Please advice. Diabetologist 's  Response
Once the level of bilirubin comes down, hiccups will subside, however it is advisable to avoid large and spicy diet.treatment of jaundice is supportive like hydration by IV fluids, multi vitamins , liver protective(like ursodeoxycholic acid etc).
Duphalac is safe and can be given. Have faith in the treating Physician.
Get a USG abdomen done. if fever continues,IV antibiotics may be required in few cases. get a regular prothrombin time check. it take time for serum bilirubin to come to normal.PT will tell early regarding recovery. Best wishes
