How Can Hiatal Hernia Be Treated?

Hi, I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia years ago. Recently I have been pain at night after going to bed. At bedtime I have to take 6 medications which feel as though they are going down far past my throat, then later I have pain in the middle of my chest. Could this be due to the hiatal hernia getting worse?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, hiatal hernia causes reflux. So, whatever you take, that will definitely have reflux. You need to change your habits.

You should go to sleep after 2 hours of taking food, or else reflux will be more. Don't take anything during night time after 8 p.m.

Try to sleep with a 30-degree elevation of the bed. Because reflux will be reduced in the head elevation position. Morning bout of bile is also decreased if you stop sleeping supine. Use gastric tablets often.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
